VidClean Privacy Policy
Applies to VidClean version 1.0.x for Android (com.vidclean.app)
The short version. VidClean works on your device. This version of the app does not request internet access, shows no advertising, contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, has no accounts, and does not collect, upload, sell or share any of your data.
1. Who we are
VidClean is published by HR TRACKS LTD ("we", "us"). The app shows how much space the videos and chat app media on your device use, and lets you remove the items you choose. This policy explains what the app accesses on your device, why, and the choices you have.
2. On-device processing
Scanning happens on this phone. Files are never uploaded.
The app reads the videos, images and audio files on your device and, only if you allow it, the files in the Media folder of WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. It uses them to total their size, group them by source and type, show them to you, and move or delete the items you confirm. All of this happens locally on your device.
This version of the app does not have the Android internet permission, so it cannot send your files, file names, folder names, thumbnails or results anywhere. We do not upload, transmit, sell or share your files or any other data, and we operate no servers that receive data from the app.
If you tap a video to preview it, the app hands that file to the video player app you choose on your phone, as you asked. It is not sent anywhere else. If you tap the Privacy policy link in Settings, the app opens this page in your browser and sends no personal data.
3. What the app accesses and why
The permissions below are requested through the Android system dialogs. Declining one only limits the related feature.
- Photos and videos (
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES,READ_MEDIA_VIDEO): to total the videos on your device, group videos and chat app media by source and type, and move to the trash or delete the items you confirm. On Android 14 and newer you can allow selected items only (READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED); the app then counts just those items and tells you so. - Music and audio (
READ_MEDIA_AUDIO): to list voice notes and audio files saved by chat apps. Requested only when you open those categories. - Storage, Android 12 and older (
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): the same purposes as the two items above, on older Android versions. - Storage, Android 10 and older (
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): to delete the items you confirm. These Android versions have no system trash, so such deletions cannot be undone; the app tells you this before you confirm. - WhatsApp folder (optional; you grant it in the Android folder picker, and it is not an app permission): to also show sent, private, status and document files. Only the Media folder is read. Chat backups (the Databases and Backups folders) are never listed or deleted. You can remove this access at any time in the app under Settings > Folder access.
- Installed chat apps: the app checks only whether WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business and Telegram are installed, to group their media. It does not read the list of other apps on your device.
The app does not send notifications and does not run in the background. It does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone or phone number, and it does not read your messages.
4. No advertising, no analytics, no accounts
This version of the app does not display advertising. It includes no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or other third-party SDKs, and it does not access your device's advertising ID. There is no account or sign-in.
5. Data stored on your device
The app keeps a small amount of data in its private storage on your device. None of it leaves your device.
- Your settings, such as the app language and whether folder access is allowed.
- Records of the items in the trash, so you can restore them.
- A local usage log of anonymous events (for example, that a scan finished, or a size range of what was moved to the trash), with a random identifier created on the device. It contains no file names, paths or chat content, and it is never sent anywhere.
This data is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
6. Deleting items, the trash and retention
- Android 11 and newer: items you remove from your media library go to the Android system trash. You can restore them within 30 days. After that Android deletes them permanently.
- Files reached only through WhatsApp folder access go to VidClean's own trash, a hidden folder named
.vidclean_trashinside the WhatsApp folder you allowed. They are kept for 30 days and are deleted permanently the next time you open the app after that. If you uninstall the app while files are still in this trash, they stay in that folder on your device (they are not sent anywhere); restore or delete them in the app before uninstalling. - Android 10 and older: there is no system trash. Items from your media library are deleted directly and cannot be recovered. The app tells you this before you confirm.
- Items in the trash still take up space. The app counts space as released only after items are permanently deleted.
- Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in Android settings, removes everything listed in section 5.
7. Children
VidClean is intended for adults (18 and over) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect data from children. The app does not collect data from anyone.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Because the app does not collect any personal data, we hold none about you. You stay in control on your device: manage permissions in Android settings, remove folder access in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. If a future version adds anything that sends data off your device, such as advertising, we will update this policy and the Google Play data safety section before that version is released. Changes will appear on this page with a new effective date.
